Automation easily translates into cost savings. That’s why Port Erie has been investing in robotics for the past several years. Most of our larger injection molding machines are equipped with servo robots. In addition, we have begun to invest in 6-axis robots like the Motoman pictured. Buying equipment certainly requires a commitment, but we go a step further. Port Erie has an in-house automation engineer on staff who programs robots, and designs entire automated work stations. For example, the Motoman pictured uses 4 different size drills to make 16 holes in this structural part.

The bottom line is that we know U.S. molders have to do everything possible to compete with cheap foreign labor. Automation expertise gives Port Erie – and our customers – a leg up.
